CRC reeds are made exclusively by Robert Morgan (Bob). Mr. Morgan has been making his own reeds for more than 30 years.

Chicago audiences know Mr. Morgan as an orchestra musician, chamber player, versatile soloist, and teacher.

He was Assistant Principal Oboe and Solo English Horn of Chicago’s Lyric Opera Orchestra. In addition to his duties with Lyric Opera.
He is a founding member of the Rembrandt Chamber Musicians, with whom he recorded the critically acclaimed CD, 20th Century Baroque (Cedille). The Rembrandt Chamber Players were the featured chamber music ensemble at the first Greenwich-Docklands International Festival in London. The ensemble celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2020.

He performed with members of the Guarneri String Quartet in April 1995. He has performed as soloist with Music of the Baroque on many occasions, and has been featured on national broadcasts and at the White House with that ensemble.

As a soloist, Mr. Morgan has debuted a number of new works for oboe, including the Chicago premiere of Joan Tower’s “Island Prelude” with the Chicago String Ensemble; the North American premiere of Ilja Hurniks’s Concerto for Oboe, Strings and Harpsichord with the Chicago Chamber Orchestra and the world premiere of Jon Polifrone’s “Concerto for Oboe” with the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra. The Polifrone Concerto and several other chamber works have been composed for him. He will be performing the Chicago premiere of Augusta Read Thomas’ “Pilgrims Soul” for English horn and two violins in February of 2013. In 2016 he commissioned and premiered the Howard Levy Sonata for oboe and piano. In 2017 he commissioned and premiered Sebastian Huydts trio for oboe, viola and piano.

He is a member of the oboe faculty at Northwestern University where he also coaches chamber music. In addition, he maintains a private studio. Several former students are performing successfully throughout the world. He is particularly proud of long time former student, Frank Rosenwein, now Principal Oboist of the Cleveland Orchestra.

In late 2008, Mr. Morgan became a Howarth Artist. He performed under the auspices of the Howarth Company at the International Double Reed SocietyConvention in Birmingham, UK in July 2009.

A native of San Francisco, Mr. Morgan studied with Jerry Sirucek at Indiana University, where he was awarded the prestigious Performer’s Certificate. He continued his studies with Ray Still, Marc Lifschey, John Mack and Arnold Jacobs. In addition, he has studied Alexander Technique with John Henes and worked with Master Woodwind Teacher, Keith Underwood.
